The emergence of global wisdom

(originally written in 1998)

Around every 500 hundred years a new chapter
in global civilisation unfolds.

Based on the cycle of Pluto and Neptune which conjoin together every 500ish years, it is now 106 years since these planets last conjoined on April 30th 1892.

These two heavy weight planets both signify slow and significant change in consciousness. The conjunction of Neptune and Pluto in Gemini in 1892, the sign of communication and rapid change, was the seed for this modern world of information. Never before in our history has so much knowledge been available to so many as in the twentieth century! The development of global systems of communication has broken down the old international barriers and resulted in the realisation that we are indeed like a global village and that everything is inter-connected.

And that's not all! From February of 1998 through to August of 1999, Pluto is in exact opposite zodiacal position to where it was in April of 1892!

So what does this mean?

Well, when oppositions are formed between planets it is like we are at a crunch point. We see things from the opposite perspective to which we started. The conjunction of Pluto and Neptune in Gemini in 1892 consolidated the idea that the distribution of facts and figures was important. Since then we have built up a world based on being clever! Yet in our cleverness we have not considered the implications of what we have been doing. We have not developed an effective global philosophy. Wisdom has been sacrificed for detail. Thus the turn around is that we can now see that our obsession with trying to control the world through our intellect has had some unfortunate consequences. We have become too caught up in the intellect and have sacrificed the substance - the natural world, the wisdom of our ancestors. Now at last there is a heavenly indication that the message that the “alternative” people of the 1960's through to the present have been telling us will be more widely heard.

In these times of transition, many have felt that there is no hope. Leaders the world over seem to be caught up in ideology and seem unaware of the needs of their people. Yet, behind the scenes, there has been a growing minority of people who truly serve others, rather than their own egos. My prediction is that in the years ahead we will increasingly see more leaders come forward into the public eye who are truly here to serve the people. That is people who have proved their worth by their actions and not honeyed words.
